Marvelous Milkweed

And oh it smells heavenly.  No wonder the butterflies love it.

Milkweed is so very lovely if you examine it up close.
My macro lens and I had a photo session with it this past week.

Though I've heard the name "Milkweed" numerous times I don't think I've ever actually seen it until now. Beautiful little flowers and real nice close up pictures!

Neat photos! Especially like the top one. I planted some milkweed this year, but it hasn't grown any flowers yer. (At least it's still growing!)

I use to be fascinated by these flowers when I was a child, they sure are pretty though :-)
These are so so breathtaking...

Perfect Pictures. Compliments. I read on Wikipedia that in the past, the high dextrose content of the nectar led to milkweed's use as a source of sweetener for Native Americans and voyageurs.

Magnificent macro! The petals are fascinating - they look like pig ears!

I was just in a field of milkweed last week and the aroma was unbelievable! I never thought about taking the blooms out of the field to photograph them...these are AMAZING! Not a butterfly in sight though :(
