Remember

Not far from my home is a small town that lays claim to the birthplace of Memorial Day.

If you do research online, you find a different story though. Most sites say it was started in 1868 after the Civil War. You can find more information HERE.

Regardless of where it originated its a day we all need to pause to remember the ones who left their families to serve our country and preserve the freedoms we have today.

There is a beautiful bronze memorial at Boalsburg. I'm sharing the pictures with you today.

The name on the stone is Reuben Hunter. He was a surgeon in the Civil War and died at Annapolis, Md on September 19, 1864 when he was 50 years of age. His daughter Emma is one of the three ladies that came to the grave in October of 1864 to remember Mr. Hunter.

Across the street is the Pennsylvania Military Museum. At the right side of the picture you can see a granite wall where alot of Pennsylvania's fallen are named.

I hope you have a safe and happy Memorial Day and please

Remember.

Beautiful memorial and statutes -- and you are right. No matter where the first one was ever held, Memorial Day is an important day to remember our heroes.
