Hershey Gardens & Butterfly House ~ Part 1

Good evening friends.  Last Friday was my parents anniversary so we took a day trip to Hershey Gardens and Butterfly House.

Here are some of my favorite images.

I know these are 2 different larvae but I don't know how to tell what kind of butterfly they will be.  Michelle at Nature Notes may be able to identify them.

This Julia is a bit tattered.

I like how it looks as if this one was looking right at me.

not sure of the identity of this beauty. A queen...maybe???

Common Buckeye. He posed so nicely.

my favorite rose bud.

I like the purple tips on this rose's petals.

I am not fond of worm, catapillars and the like but that one you took pictures of is rather a handsome thing!

Wonderful images...I have scanned comments and cannot see where anyone has identified the caterpillars. Been googling some myself and think the second one may be a black swallowtail. I am not positive...just going by images I found. Have not looked for the other one yet. Will try to come back and see if anyone has identified them that knows for sure.

Very nice shots, Felicia. We used to get many of these caterpillars on my parsley back in our Ohio garden. I never saw one emerge, but we had plenty of Monarchs after they did, so I always thought they turn into Monarchs.

Wow, beautiful detail!

Beautiful photos. By the way, I prefer driving up Pikes Peak to the train - the train feels rushed, whereas you can stop where you want and take your time driving.

Beautiful images as always. We had a bumper crop of Monarch butterflies last summer. They are easy to identify as they are the only ones that hatch around here, so I'm no help to you.

Hi Felicia!
Happy Anniversary to your parents! We visited Hershey Park often when our children were little--fun park and chocolate tour! I don't think there was a butterfly exhibit back then. I loved your photos!

I would love to spend an anniversary this way. Those are black swallowtails I think and they are easy to raise. I have never done it myself. To me even a worn butterfly is a beautiful butterfly... Michelle
Wonderful photos Felicia and happy belated anniversary to your parents!
